The Hammerheads
Hammerhead Construction was co-founded in 2020 by Dave and Dusty Nickel, a father-son duo who wanted to provide high-quality, fairly priced and professional construction services.
Our roots run deep in residential construction and development with more than 40 years of building experience and over 1,000 completed projects of all sizes and types.

Our Story
Father
A carpenter by trade, Dave started his career in home construction in the 1960s. Since that time, he has worked with some of Western Canada's most prominent home builders as a builder and supervisor of major projects and developments. His experience and expertise span both residential and commercial construction, and has been involved in the construction more than 500 homes.

Dave serves as a Site Supervisor on all of Hammerhead projects, ensuring each project stage is completed to our highest standards of quality and craftsmanship.

Son
Growing up, Dusty was essentially spoon-fed with a hammer (aka, a Hammerhead). At a young age, Dusty started working with Dave and his crews around the job site being tasked with odd jobs such as keeping the job site clean and hauling lumber.
Dusty attended Mount Royal University on a scholarship starting in 2012 and was a member of the MRU Cougars Men's Hockey Team. He graduated with a degree in General Management and Finance in 2016 with Honours and as a 4x CIS All-Canadian Academic-Athlete. He is currently continuing his education, pursuing his MBA in Real Estate at the University of Calgary's, Westman School of Real Estate Studies.

With Dave's vast industry experience, and Dusty's aptitude for business and management, the duo embarked on a journey to improve the industry for today's homeowners. In an industry that has left many homeowners stressed and wary of trusting contractors, the duo is on a mission to stand out, providing customers with a simplified and trustworthy solution.

A long standing history
The business has run in the family for as many as three generations starting more than 60 years ago. A lot has changed since then in our communities and in building practices. But the fundamental principles still remain the same - provide professional service people can count on, provide high-quality service, plan diligently, and keep it simple.
What we do best
Our primary focus is in basement developments, drive-in-ready garages, and backyard projects including decks, fences and pergolas. Our core team has expertise in project management and framing. Where we do not have specific expertise, we have partnered with the best qualified local trades in order to provide you with the best complete team possible for your project.

We serve homeowners, homebuilders and real estate invstors in Calgary and surrounding areas such as Cochrane, Airdrie, Okotoks, Chestermere and the Rockyview County.

Our team has over 40 years of building experience and has completed over 1,000 projects for both homeowners, homebuilders and developers. This level of experience is almost unheard of and we are very proud of that.
