BASEMENT DEVELOPMENT COST
The cost of a basement development depends on the size of the basement, design, materials selections and other factors.

If you are just starting to think about developing out that empty space of encompassing cold concrete called a basement, the first question that always comes into consideration is "how much is it going to cost me?"

The long answer it that it depends on a number of factors. The first consideration is the size of the area to be developed as well if you are including a bathroom, or just a living space. The largest consideration comes down to the selections you choose as these can vary from entry-level to luxury.

Because there is such a vast range of options and solutions available, the best way to approach a basement development is by first deciding on your budget of what you would be ok investing into your basement to generate the value you are looking for. We say "invest" because a basement development is an investment with a return and not a lost cost once it it built. A well developed basement can add significant value to your home. In dollar terms, a dollar invested is a dollar added to equity of your home.

A typical basement in Calgary is around 600 - 700 square feet, including a bathroom. In order to fully develop a basement of this size, you should expect starting a starting point of about $35,000 and can range up to $100,000 depending on the design and materials selected as well as other factors.
If you are looking to build a secondary suite, with a full kitchen or kitchenette and full bathroom, this typically starts around $55,000 - $70,000.

While developing your basement won't be cheap, it will add a whole floorspace to your home and provide significant value back to your home equity as well as memories made and moments enjoyed.
